The 6 x 6 Leadership Challenge

Attention: This is for YOU if you manage a team of people

Are you going to take the 6x6 Leadership Challenge and REALLY get the best from your team this year?

This time of year can be tough. People are flat after the Christmas and New Year holidays. Many are flat broke. Here in the UK the winter weather can be enough to get us down. In some sectors this is a quiet time of year, for others it’s a busy period.

Regardless of whether you’re in a busy period, a dead spot or business as usual and regardless of whether it’s Quarter 1 or Quarter 4, lots of people are feeling dispirited and demotivated by the global economic situation.

You might have fewer people or a restricted budget, but you’ve probably got ambitious targets to meet as well. It’s never been more important to get maximum results with minimum resources. And that means that it’s never been more important to engage all of your people and their full potential.

So how would you like to work with me for 6 weeks to increase YOUR team’s performance?

For just £300?

Should I repeat that? You can work with me for 6 weeks for just £300 + VAT. No travel costs, no hotel bills, no days out of your busy schedule.

My brand new 6x6 Leadership Challenge started on
16th January 2012 - and you can still join in because everything has been recorded.

6x6 Leadership ChallengeIt’s six weeks to focus on six essential elements of team performance. And my challenge to you is this: How far can you increase your team's performance in six weeks?

“I’m too busy!” I hear you thinking. Well you don’t need a clear calendar to participate in the 6 x 6 Leadership Challenge. All of the activities are things that a manager would or should be doing anyway. Some might not be in your calendar this month, or might not be in your plan regularly, but all of the things I’m going to ask you to will contribute to you and your team achieving your usual everyday results and more besides.

Why six weeks?

6 weeksSix weeks is the perfect time frame for embedding new habits.  This isn’t a training programme. It’s all about implementation. Most of the material will be stuff you already know. There may be a few bits of theory that are new to you. And in Week 4 I’ll be sharing some of the team mind-set techniques I’ve developed with my own team during 2011.

In general what I’ll be doing is focusing your attention, encouraging you to think in alternative ways and helping you track your achievements as you increase your team’s performance. I think you can participate in the Challenge even if you can only commit an hour or two per week. Most of the Challenge involves doing normal, everyday activities and challenging your usual way of thinking as you do them.

Why work with me?

Dianne LowtherSince starting my career in retail management over 25 years ago (go on - say I don't look old enough, please!) I've managed large and small teams; teams that were on site with me, field-based teams and virtual teams.  I've also worked with technical teams, front-line service teams and Senior Teams.  Today I have a team of eight, who all work from their own home bases and all have other 'bosses' as well as me.

I've always been interested in how to get the best out of a team.  In my retailing days my boss used to send me in to problem branches to increase performance and I used to work at getting a bigger increase each time I took on a new challenge.  I learned a lot about how to get people engaged, enthusiastic and productive.  Every time I've taken on a new team since then, I've added to my store of knowedge and techniques. And now I want to share with you my strategy for increasing team performance.

This is the strategy that has enabled us to DOUBLE our turnover in the last 12 months, in the depths of global recession.

It's not 'rocket science'.  It's simply my own tried-and-tested methods for keeping my own team engaged, informed and productive.  A lot of it will seem like common sense to you.  Some of it stands on good psychological theory, some incorporates NLP thinking and technique.  Most of it is about cultivating a mindset about your team that will make you an inspiration to others.

How will we increase your team's performance?

Obviously, every team is different. Each team has its own targets, workload and areas of professional expertise. So I can't tell you at this stage exactly what results you'll be able to measure at the end of the 6x6 Leadership Challenge. What I CAN tell you is this:

As you work through the complete programme with me, you'll see some clear differences:

  • Specific goals to focus on that will make it easy for you to hit your targets
  • A fully motivated and engaged team of people - so that you don't have to spend loads of time chasing up work and worrying about deadlines
  • Clear, open and honest lines of communication - meaning that your important messages are heard and acted on
  • Efficient working patterns that capitalise on everyone's strengths - you can go home at the end of the day knowing that you won't have to put in extra hours to keep on top of the workload
  • Measurable performance indicators - you can track progress easily and show your sponsors the results of your hard work.
  • The confidence, capability and credibility to tackle small issues before they become big problems.

Here’s how it’s all going to work:

JigsawBoxWhen you sign up you’ll get your personal log-in to our virtual seminar system, JigsawBox. All the details about the 6x6 Leadership Challenge are available in JigsawBox, along with checklists, reminders and tools to help you work smoothly through the 6 weeks and record your progress as you go along.

Each of the six weeks will begin with a LIVE video broadcast. I’ll be talking you through the theme for the week and a list of activities related to that theme. You can work through them step-by-step or pick out the pieces that are most relevant to you.

Remember, most of the tasks are things that will be part of your usual activities. I’m simply going to keep you focused and thinking about what you’re doing. The key to this programme is in how you think about what you’re doing, not necessarily in doing a lot of new or different things.

Q and AAt the end of each week I’ll also be hosting a Question & Answer conference call, where you can get my input to any tricky areas you may have encountered during the week.

In addition, everyone who joins the 6x6 Leadership Challenge will have access to a special on-line forum where you can chat with other people in the Challenge and compare notes about your progress.

Here is a summary of what you get each week:

  • My LIVE video broadcast on Monday setting the scene and explaining the theme and the activities for the week
  • A checklist of activities for the week
  • Details of things to consider for each of these activities with advice on planning and implementing.
  • An optional activity to stretch more experienced teams and managers
  • A ‘skill-builder’ module that explains ‘how to’ for the main skill needed this week
  • An online forum to chat with other managers in the Challenge
  • A LIVE interactive Q&A call on Friday to handle any issues and celebrate achievements

How much of your time will this take up?

How much time?If you’re looking at this and thinking "I haven’t got time to do it", that might mean you’re making everything else more important than managing your team - when the reality is that nothing is more important than managing your team. So I want to show you how to fit that in with everything else that you feel you’ve got to do.
